Alcoholics Anonymous : AA Speaker Tapes

Last August I was sitting in my truck at the river here in Humboldt County and looking at the Redwoods for what I thought would be the last time. I had a gun on my lap and had lost all faith in myself and the program after struggling in the problem for the last 7 years. There seemed like nothing else to do but end it all. I remember looking for a Mettalica CD and instead I came across a CD that a man had given to me at my home group when I was struggling. I put the CD the man had given me on instead and it was this one. I truly believe that God gives us what we need right when we need it. I think everyone should hear this talk, it is indeed a Lifesaver. Thank you Earl, and all members of the Program of Alcoholics Anonymous. I owe my life to all of you and God. My oh my what can i say. Earl is by far my favorite speaker for years. Makes you cry, laugh, and carries the message of AA so touching. Highly recommend him.

Thank you Earl for sharing about other mood altering substances in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous. I need people like you. I was dying with an illness and some members objected to me sharing about my experiences with other substances.They nearly drove me out the door. 21rst June 2004 I came back to my second meeting 7 years after my first and by the grace of God I have been abstinent since after a member gave me your share tape. God bless you my friends.Whats the difference between Bill and Bob using valium to the younger members of AA using other substances. Who wants to die drunk?

Earl has the most incredible story I've ever heard in my life. Its truly amazing and its what I look to and think of in my day to day life when I feel like times are getting hard with my recovery. If this guy did it, anyone can!

At 13 years sober, I had just had the most horrific experience of my life and was struggling to stay safe & sane... To keep the noise in my head quite, any time I was in my car for more than 30 minutes, I listened to a speaker tape- to the sound of reason. Someone gave me Earl's tape. I was driving along trying not to cry, popped the tape in and he made me laugh. Then he started to talk about the experience that separated him from God & everyone and then he made the statement "PTSD was going to annihilate my ability to function in society..." I had to pull over, it hit me so hard... yet here he was years later sober & happy & helpful and I KNEW I would be ok!! Knew it, like I know I’ll be female tomorrow and that God does provide, she talks in any voice I can hear and speaks to my soul… Namaste Earl.

I heard Earl the first time when I was celebrating my one-year anniversary. I was so insanely uncomfortable that I decided to pick one person to hate in this big fancy meeting I'd never been to before, which I figured would allow me to at least tolerate everyone else. I picked this well-groomed, really happy guy to focus my hate-beam on. Then of course he was the speaker. Then he was Earl H. Then my tiny mind was blown. (Which has continued to this day 11+ years later.) Plus, dozens of times after that, when I'd be driving in my car and fuming furiously about some injustice perpetrated against me by the universe, what would happen? ... Suddenly, there would be that Earl guy... in his car... going the other way... just going about his life... oblivious to the fact that I just got reminded AGAIN about humility... whoo. Since I left CA, no Earl sightings, but it's awesome to be able to hear him on this site. I would've drank with Earl for sure, but I think the world is better off with us both sober.
